Chapter 12: Snakes and Scorpions

Kuroninja had recently had a dream. He dreamt of a giant snake watching him. Then there were also some flashbacks of Kuroninja using the sudden surge of power to win battles against tough opponents. But then Kuroninja saw a vision of a pyramid in South America. Inside this pyramid was an amulet made of serpentine. Kuroninja woke up.

Whatever this amulet was, Kuroninja thought it could help him find out what those sudden power surges he had were coming from. He told Kuroninja-10 that he was going to South America to look for something, and he was bringing Ayame with him. Ayame followed Kuroninja to the airport, and KuroninjAyame was back. Ran felt lonely without Kuroninja, but Kuroninja-10 told her that Kuroninja was going to be ok. Kuroninja had already fought even more dangerous opponents, such as Akuroninja.

As soon as Kuroninja arrived in South America, he noticed Nightshade was there too, along with RoseRed, the red ranger of the evil Sentai from Earth-10, the Bioninja Sentai Hanaranger. RoseRed was also Ayame’s archenemy for some reason. Kuroninja asked what the Bioninja Organic Organization was doing in South America. RoseRed said that they were looking for the Serpentine Amulet, which could allow the Bioninjas to control the Snakemen with words, instead of having to use the flute to command them. Kuroninja said that he needed the Serpentine Amulet too. RoseRed asked why, because the Serpentine Amulet had the power to control snakes, but Kuroninja wasn’t a snake. Kuroninja didn’t understand why his vision told him that the sudden power surges could be controlled by this Amulet. But this power surge could have something to do with snakes. Nightshade was about to fight Kuroninja, but RoseRed said that this was a perfect time to test Cronin’s new creations. She then threw a metal briefcase covered in Heliconia plants on the floor. The briefcase opened and transformed into what looked like a Cyberninja, except that it had red spikes and vines covering the head and body, and it also had a large red lobster claw on its right hand.

This was a new experiment that the Bioninjas were testing, and it was also why they were stealing Cyberninjas from the CTC. The lobster claw robot attacked Kuroninja and Ayame. But Kuroninja was able to take the Cyberninja down. Then KuroninjAyame left and headed for the jungle. But someone was watching them.

Kuroninja and Ayame then went to the entrance of the jungle, but then got attacked by the lobster claw Cyberninja. That was when a group of guys in suits showed up and defeated the lobster claw robot, who ran away. They were led by a handsome-looking man with a gold ring, who was accompanied by his secretary, who seemed familiar to Kuroninja. There was also a guy wearing a black ski mask and blue ski goggles. “Who are you?” Kuroninja asked.

“My name...” the handsome guy said, “is Mark Scorpio.”

Kuroninja was then introduced to Mark Scorpio and his team. They were part of the Direct Scorpio International Institution. What they did was collect treasures around the world and bring them back to their main base, where they would learn stuff from these treasures and teach the gained knowledge to others. Mark Scorpio was looking for the Serpentine Amulet too, so Kuroninja and Ayame decided to make an alliance with DSII.

As soon as they entered the jungle area, Kuroninja decided to use the Profiler Shuriken because he didn’t trust Scorpio that much. However, before he could use it, the sky turned dark, and lightning struck. They decided to make a campsite before moving on.

The next day, Kuroninja, Ayame, Scorpio and the others were looking for the temple of the Serpentine Amulet, when the guy with blue ski goggles located the temple with his gps. Mark Scorpio read the inscriptions and it said “stand here.” Kuroninja stood on the entrance, and then a door opened. Kuroninja then noticed the Serpentine Amulet, but it was guarded by stone statues that looked like snakes. There were also snakes on the floor. Ayame helped Kuroninja get up on the ceiling, where there were vines, to avoid the snakes. Kuroninja also helped Ayame up. They climbed the vines, avoiding the snakes, arriving in the place where the Serpentine Amulet was. Kuroninja grabbed it, but then the statues’ eyes turned red. They began attacking KuroninjAyame, who escaped the temple.

As soon as they escaped the temple, they were attacked by a bolt of lightning. Kuroninja and Ayame collapsed on the dirt, and Mark Scorpio picked up the Amulet. The guy in blue ski goggles got out a device and scanned the Serpentine Amulet. A large number appeared. Mark Scorpio said “Excellent. We can sell this.”

“I thought you were doing this for educational purposes, not just selling them!” Kuroninja said.

“Actually, we lied about that.” Mark Scorpio said. “You see, our goal is to find certain objects called “Precious,” which are very powerful. What we do is sell these Precious to the highest bidder. We’ve done this for months, selling Precious such as the Magic Beans, the Stones of Probability, Excalibur, and soon, we will sell the Serpentine Amulet.”

“But...” Kuroninja said, “Those artifacts are really powerful. What if someone used it for evil?” remembering what Excalibur was.

“So what? I don’t care what side anyone’s on. All I want is the money,” Mark Scorpio said. “You see, Kuroninja, DSII doesn’t stand for the Direct Scorpio International Institution. It stands for “Dark Shadow 2!”

“Dark Shadow 2!?” Kuroninja said. “But...what do the 2 I’s stand for...oh, I get it now!”

Mark Scorpio then clapped 2 times, and his secretary transformed with a smoke bomb. She was actually Kaze no Shizuka, a female ninja from the first Dark Shadow. Then lightning stuck, and Kuroninja was shocked. Swordblade X, a Cyberninja who was so powerful that he escaped the CTC, was Mark Scorpio’s bodyguard. This explained where the lightning came from.

But then, the guy with ski goggles attacked Mark Scorpio from behind and took his ski mask off. It was Souta Mogami, a member of the Boukengers and a spy. Souta had only joined DSII for a week, and was only spying on them from the inside to put a stop to Dark Shadow 2.

Mark Scorpio then said that he was ready for traitors. He got out some light grey stones, saying that he found them after they fell from a purple wormhole. He placed them on the ground, and they turned into light grey foot soldiers. Souta recognized them as Karths, which were used by the Gordom Civilization. Then Scorpio said he wasn’t done. He revealed a gold Cyber Adapter was on his wrist. Then he placed on it an orange shuriken with the character “蠍” on it. He placed it on the Cyber Adapter and transformed into a futuristic-looking scorpion monster with orange armour and a laser sword with an orange blade. The blade looked like a scorpion tail. Scorpio then ordered the Karths to attack Kuroninja, Ayame, and Souta. But then Shizuka attacked the Karths and declared that she was on Kuroninja’s side. Kuroninja didn’t even know why. Scorpio then said “At least Swordblade X is on my side.” Swordblade X then said “Nope. I’d rather fight in a duel. There’s too many for this to be a duel.” He then left in a bolt of lightning. Mark Scorpio, who was transformed, announced “All of you...you have been marked by the Scorpio!”

Scorpio was on his own. Souta transformed into BoukenBlue to help Kuroninja, Ayame, and Shizuka. They defeated all the Karths using their own strengths. Kuroninja and Ayame then charged at Scorpio. Scorpio was ready for them and blocked all the attacks with his sword. Then he kicked Kuroninja in the face with a powerful kick. Kuroninja then got out a blue shuriken he had, and placed it on his ninja sword. He spun this shuriken, known as the Ayame Shuriken, and the blade of his ninja sword turned blue. Ayame’s ninja sword’s blade turned black. Then Kuroninja and Ayame did a synchronized attack on Scorpio, forcing him to untransform from his monster form back to his normal form, and escape. Kuroninja wondered if they would ever see Swordblade X again.

Later, Kuroninja got to keep the Serpentine Amulet. He and Ayame returned to Japan, and went back to their house. Kuroninja-10 was waiting. The Serpentine Amulet seemed to be working, but it never gave Kuroninja any information about what this power he had was. Kuroninja decided there was no other choice. He would have to go to Earth-4 and find DSR, since Akuroninja told him about him having a similar power.
